Plot summary
Kate Paxton, an archaeologist in New York City, leaves her husband, the U.S. Marine captain Brad Paxton, and their daughter for an archaeological mission in Morocco, where she meets the French-Algerian archaeologist Jean Rashidi. In the desert, Kate and her team search for an ancient city and cross into Algeria, where insurgents seize her, Jean and the Moroccan Amir Jadid. Brad, still carrying the memory of his service in Syria, travels to Rabat and joins forces with Younes Laalej, a former U.S. Army soldier he served with. Though Tom Fitzgerald objects, Ambassador Williams helps gather intelligence, and the embassy identifies the terrorist leader Jaafar El Hadi, an Interpol wanted man in hiding, whose group sets a ten million dollar ransom.
