Plot summary
In Montreal, model Kelly-Anne takes a seat in the courtroom where Ludovic Chevalier stands accused over the deaths of three teenage girls. The victims are said to have been shown in a Red Room, a dark web chat room where people pay to watch. Two films the FBI sent to Canadian authorities are part of the evidence, but the killer's face stays hidden behind a balaclava, and spectators who doubt the charge point to Chevalier's reticent demeanor. At the courthouse Kelly-Anne becomes friendly with Clémentine, a younger woman who reached the city by hitchhiking to follow the trial, and offers her a place to stay while it runs. Clémentine argues passionately for Chevalier; Kelly-Anne keeps her distance and says little. Her own money comes mostly from online gambling, and she has written an AI she calls Guinevere.
