DogMan (2023) on Netflix

Plot summary

Douglas Munrow grew up in a violent home where his father and brother, both fanatically religious, ran illegal dog fights. Ordered to starve the animals, he secretly fed them and came to love them more than his own family. His father locked him in the outdoor kennel, and when Douglas tried to stop him killing newborn puppies, the man shot him, severing a finger and leaving him paralyzed. A dog carried his severed finger to officials, who rescued him. Douglas then entered social care, and at a juvenile institution a theater teacher, Salma, introduced him to Shakespeare. Years on, police in New Jersey stop a truck filled with dozens of dogs and arrest its paraplegic driver, Douglas, disguised in drag. Psychiatrist Evelyn is called to hear his account.
