Plot summary
In 1970s Marseille, the heroin trade is controlled by a gang that imports morphine from Turkey, refines it into heroin and ships it to New York under the name la French. The outfit is led by Gaëtan Zampa, who adds extortion and robbery to its drug income. Pierre Michel, a former juvenile court judge, joins the organized crime unit and finds the gang's crimes hard to prove; the police squad that investigates heroin trafficking has nothing to report. A tip from Lily, a heroin-addicted teenager, leads to the arrest of a retired Corsican chemist who once cooked heroin for the gang, but he refuses to talk about its leaders.
