Plot summary
The faculty of Third Street Elementary is stuck in a snowstorm, and Principal Prickly's car is stuck in a snowbank. He decides the Recess gang is to blame. The teachers remember the good times they have had with T.J. Detweiler and his friends: Vince LaSalle, Spinelli, Mikey Blumberg, Gretchen Grundler and Gus Griswold, the new kid. The stories come as flashbacks.

- Recess was meant to sneak preview on ABC on August 31, 1997, then premiere on September 6, 1997, but both airings were pulled in accordance with the death of Princess Diana, and the series instead premiered on September 13, a week ahead of its intended premiere.
- The two creators of Recess were credited by their first names only, as "Paul & Joe", because Disney was concerned that putting their full names on the series would overshadow Walt Disney's name.
- The crossover episode "Lax" made Recess the only series to cross over with Lilo & Stitch: The Series that was not a Disney Channel Original Series, and the only one whose production had already ended before Lilo & Stitch: The Series first aired.
