Dick Clark
Biography
Dick Clark was a host, radio broadcaster and producer whose long run on American Bandstand made him a central figure in bringing rock and roll to American television. Born in Bronxville, New York, and raised in Mount Vernon, he decided as a boy to work in radio and studied at Syracuse University before starting at a Utica station in 1945. After disc jockey work in Philadelphia, he took over Bandstand in 1956; the show went national on ABC in 1957 and gave early exposure to the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel and Prince. He also hosted several versions of the Pyramid game show between 1973 and 1988, winning Emmy Awards for his game show hosting, produced and hosted Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, and created the American Music Awards in 1973. He produced Where the Action Is and TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes, and appeared in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002).

Clark was the first person to host The $10,000 Pyramid, a word-association game made by Bob Stewart that started on CBS on March 26, 1973. It later went to ABC in 1974.

Clark wrote, produced and starred in Killers Three, a 1968 Western drama. The film served as a promotional vehicle for Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens, country musicians from Bakersfield.
