Ratataplan (1979) on Netflix

Plot summary

Colombo, an engineering graduate in Milano, cannot land a job, so he serves drinks at a kiosk on the Montagnetta di San Siro, run by a woman who is her own only customer. In his battered building live a perpetually pregnant woman, a theater cooperative called Quelli di Grock, a girl who hauls heaps of rags, and a dance school whose student he adores. At home his own contraptions prepare his breakfast and hand him his clothes. When a wheelchair-using manager at an international summit has a heart attack, a call for a glass of water reaches the kiosk by mistake, and Colombo runs across Milan with the glass, which picks up a traffic cop's helmet, a painter's brushes, truck dirt, pigeon seed and an insect. At the summit the man drinks the mixture.
