Plot summary
Shay arrives at a purity retreat with her father Kyle and her half-sister Jo, two people she has known only since her mother died two months before. Jo calls the retreat patriarchal and antiquated, while Shay hopes it will bring her closer to her dad. Pastor Seth preaches to the girls about Lilith, whom he calls lusty and sinful because she was created equal, and about Eve, whom he presents as a sign of women's weakness. That night Jo and her cabin mates hold the secret ritual they perform every year, and Shay is included in it. The ritual appears to work, and a supernatural entity begins appearing to Shay.

- Hannah Macpherson, who directed "Pure" and wrote its teleplay, had not heard of the purity ball subculture before Blumhouse Television brought her the concept, and she wanted the fathers and Pastor Seth to feel realistic rather than like mustache-twirling villains.
- The inspiration for the Into the Dark episode "Pure" was the Daughter's Day holiday, a real occasion intended to celebrate daughters and recognize their worth.
