Plot summary

Sarah is fifteen and lives in a small paper mill town, in a home that holds no affection for her. She meets Spike, and the two fall in love. Together they pull small-time con jobs, money that goes toward keeping themselves fed and toward their drug habit. Spike has plans of his own: he plays bass, and when he answers an audition notice in the newspaper he wins a place in a band. That success makes him think the two of them are on their way out of the life they have been living. For Sarah, the draw is simpler: a life with Spike instead of the one she was born into.
