Plot summary
Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, two hitmen, drive to a Los Angeles apartment to take back a briefcase for their boss, Marsellus Wallace, from his dishonest business partner Brett. Jules recites a passage from Ezekiel before the two of them shoot Brett, and a man hiding in the bathroom fires at them and misses. Marsellus is out of town and has asked Vincent to take his wife, Mia, out for the night, so Vincent first buys heroin from his dealer, Lance. The aging boxer Butch Coolidge has taken money from Marsellus to lose his next fight. In a diner, two robbers who call themselves Pumpkin and Honey Bunny plan a holdup.

- Quentin Tarantino cast John Travolta as Vincent Vega after Michael Madsen, who had played Vic Vega in Reservoir Dogs, chose to appear in Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp instead. Harvey Weinstein pushed for Daniel Day-Lewis in the part.
- Jules was written to have a giant afro, but Tarantino's assistant bought a Jheri curled wig by mistake. Tarantino was enraged, yet Jackson talked him into keeping it, since the rap group N.W.A had made the hairstyle popular.
- The adrenaline scene, in which Vincent revives the overdosing Mia by injecting her heart, was inspired by Martin Scorsese's documentary American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince. Steven Prince recalled injecting adrenaline into the heart of a woman who had overdosed, using a medical dictionary and a Magic Marker.
- Before Pulp Fiction's premiere, Tarantino convinced Roger Avary to forfeit his agreed-on cowriting credit and accept a "story by" credit, so the line "Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino" could be used in advertising and onscreen.
- Pulp Fiction was the first Miramax film to surpass $100 million at the U.S. box office, grossing $107.93 million against its $8.5 million budget. Worldwide it took in nearly $213 million.
