Plot summary
Michael, a paleontology professor, takes a field trip to a volcano in a Turkish forest, hunting fossils for his research. Kate, once his student and now his partner, joins him, along with four teenagers: Gwen, Jason, Willis and Angie. The volcano has become active, and a nest of eggs preserved there is hatching into pterodactyls. The group camps in the woods. Angie swims in a lake and something attacks her; she says it looked like a bird, and Michael dismisses the idea. In the same forest, Captain Bergen and his squad are hunting Yolen, a terrorist the government wants, and Bergen has a personal stake, since Yolen had soldiers Bergen trained put to death.
