Plot summary
Northern Great Plains, 1719. Naru, trained as a healer among the Comanche, wants to hunt the way her brother Taabe does. Out tracking deer, she sees lights cross the sky and reads them as a Thunderbird, a sign that her time has come; what crosses the sky is a hunter from another world. When a mountain lion carries off a man named Puhi, Naru joins the search party her brother leads and lends it her tracking skills. They find Puhi alive but wounded, and the lion is still at large. Certain that the woods hold a danger greater than any lion, Naru leaves camp with her dog, Sarii, to find it.

- Prey became the first feature film to have a full Comanche language dub, with the entire cast reprising their roles in the Comanche-language version.
- Dane DiLiegro's Predator costume weighed 80 lb of foam latex that grew heavier and wetter as he sweated, and his helmet left his vision almost completely obscured, so he rehearsed beforehand and took directions by radio; at one point the wiring set the helmet on fire.
- Naru's dog Sarii was played by a Carolina dog named Coco, adopted and trained specifically for the film; the idea came from Mad Max 2, and Coco's training and energy got her into more scenes, including action sequences.
- Prey won one of its six Primetime Emmy nominations, for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special, the first Emmy win in the Predator franchise's history.
- Cinematographer Jeff Cutter called the Predator's fight with the French trappers the hardest scene to shoot: eight days in a 250 sqft area with a hundred scenographic trees and three smoke machines.
- The cast had four weeks of training camp with weapons and personal trainers before filming, and during team-building they invented a sign language so their characters could communicate non-verbally.
- Dane DiLiegro became the Predator because Dan Trachtenberg wanted a leaner, more 'feline' physique than original Predator performer Kevin Peter Hall's 'WWF 1987 wrestler standoff type thing'.
- Dan Trachtenberg hired composer Sarah Schachner after being impressed by her score for the game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla; she recorded most of the strings herself, and Robert Mirabal provided flute and vocals.
