Plot summary
Madison has been sent from one boarding school to the next for most of her life, and she keeps few people close. The family she has left is Patricia, a stepmother she is estranged from. Patricia turns up without warning and asks Madison to join her on St. Isabel, the island Madison once visited with her father. Madison agrees, and there she meets Blake, a local guide. He arranges a paddle board outing that carries the two of them to a far part of the island. During the outing, Madison panics, slips from her board, and is reported to have drowned.
