Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Poor White Trash was shot in Benton and Du Quoin, Illinois, where many local extras were told the film was a coming-of-age story called Goodbye Summer; when the real title was announced, the mayors of both cities sent letters objecting and asking for a different one.
- Tony Urban conceived the film and pitched it by email to director Michael Addis; though Urban lived in Pennsylvania and Addis in California, the two wrote the script together without meeting in person until the day before filming began.
