Plot summary

Ten months after losing his medical license for operating while high, former Los Angeles surgeon Eugene Sands is buying fentanyl citrate in a bar when Russian thugs shoot Isaac, the man beside him. Claire, who is there, has the bartender call her boyfriend, Raymond Blossom, and with her help Eugene performs an emergency procedure that inflates the victim's collapsed lung. Word of the rescue reaches Blossom, a counterfeiter whose associates Yates and Cyril bring Eugene to him. Blossom offers money to keep the surgeon on call, treating gunshot wounds so that his accomplices never risk a hospital and the police. FBI agent Thomas Gage is meanwhile working the counterfeiting case against Blossom.
