Plot summary
Stewart Smith, a reporter called Stew, works for the Post. His editor sends him after Michael Schuyler, a playboy facing a breach of promise suit from the chorus girl Gloria Golden. Dexter Grayson, the lawyer for the Schuyler family, offers Stew fifty dollars to keep the story out of the paper, and Stew refuses. He lets Michael's sister Ann believe her plea has persuaded him, then calls the story in to his editor anyway. Stew returns to the mansion with a book he borrowed from the family library, and Ann asks why he printed the suit but not Michael's letters to Gloria. He tells her he is writing a play, and she wonders whether she can make him over into a gentleman.
