Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Phantasm IV: Oblivion (1998)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- $650,000 covered Phantasm IV: Oblivion after Phantasm II cost $3,000,000 and Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead $2,500,000; for the Civil War dream sequence, the filmmakers hired a Civil War reenactment group for a $200 donation.
- Canadian filmmaker Roger Avary, a self-professed hardcore Phantasm fan, wrote an epic screenplay titled Phantasm 1999, a post-apocalyptic sequel to Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead that would have featured Bruce Campbell as a co-star; when financing ran into difficulties, Don Coscarelli wrote and directed Oblivion as a precursor using outtakes from the earlier films.
- Because the production could afford only a few sets, several key scenes were filmed in the desert, with filming taking place largely in Death Valley and Lone Pine, California, making Phantasm IV: Oblivion the only Phantasm movie without significant scenes inside a mausoleum.
- The swarm of spheres was created by several Phantasm fans, who showed their work to Reggie Bannister, who passed it on to Don Coscarelli; the KNB EFX group also pitched in as a favor to Coscarelli.
