Plot summary
Arthur attends a New Year's Eve party marking the year 2000, where his girlfriend Lucie asks him for a child. He refuses. In the bathroom, a panel in the ceiling opens onto a passage to the Paris of the future, a place that looks like a sun-baked desert city. There Arthur meets Ako, an old man who declares that he is Arthur's son. Ako wants to exist, and he presses Arthur to make Lucie pregnant so that he can come into being; otherwise he will disappear. Arthur remains undecided. His job brings in little money, he is uncertain about what lies ahead, and fatherhood is not something he has chosen.
