Out in the Open (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

In 1946, seven years after Franco won the Spanish Civil War, a nameless boy called Kid escapes the house of Capataz, the abusive landholder who bought him. He takes a compass, a little water and food, and Capataz's gold pocket watch, planning to reach the city and free his family. When Capataz notices, he sends his men El Triana, El Segovia, El Portugués and El Viejo after the boy. Crossing the arid plain, Kid loses his compass and water bottle while hiding from a farmer driving livestock. Thirsty and hungry, he meets Pastor, a shepherd who travels the wastelands with his sheep and a guard dog. Pastor finds the boy near a ruined house and keeps him alive. The two strike a bargain: Pastor will guide Kid to the city, while Capataz's men keep searching.
