Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Wild Tales (2014)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Damián Szifron built all six stories from real-life situations of people he knew or lived through himself, and turned an argument he got into with another driver into the segment "El más fuerte", pulling over to write it down straight away.
  • Damián Szifron assembled a cast of actors who rarely star together partly because each segment was shot in only ten days, and let Ricardo Darín and Oscar Martínez, whom he already wanted to work with, choose the roles they wanted.
  • The third segment was filmed on the road connecting Salta and Cafayate, chosen because the script called for a desolate route with stunning scenery to contrast the violence of the fight with the beauty of the surroundings.
  • When filming ended, Damián Szifron had enough material for "three different movies with different takes", so he spent six to seven months editing Wild Tales, doing the work in his own house.
  • After the 2015 crash of Germanwings Flight 9525, the cinemas BFI and Curzon changed their listings for Wild Tales, saying the fictional plane crash at the start of the film resembled the real one.
  • Wild Tales became what The New York Times called "a genuine social phenomenon" in Argentina, giving some characters cult status, and "I am Bombita" became a catchphrase like the American "going postal".
  • By the end of its theatrical run in Argentina, Wild Tales had sold over 3.9 million tickets, making it the most-seen Argentine film of all time.
  • Wild Tales collected a record 21 nominations at the Sur Awards and won ten of them, among them Best Film and Best Director.
