Plot summary
Tom Miller works as a paralegal for the firm handling the Denning case, a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company whose star witness, John Ferguson, has died. Miller's memo about the Gambizzi crime family gets him fired by Alan Emmerich, one of the partners, and his girlfriend Anna is sent home along with the rest of the staff. Leaving the building, Miller notices a man set down a briefcase that another man picks up and carries into an elevator. He follows and watches the man pull a pistol from the briefcase and shoot Janine, a lawyer. Miller hides in a bathroom, where he finds a security guard's body, and warns Roger, a fellow paralegal.
