Plot summary
Bunde is a prince in 20th-century Africa who keeps slaves so that his plantation can be cultivated for profit. The people held on his land do the work, and an overseer handles them cruelly. The prince has waited a long time for an heir, and a child has now been born to him. The overseer's own future depends on whether the newborn lives.
