Plot summary
In the German town of Wisbourg, Herr Knock, an estate agent, arranges for Thomas Hutter to sell a dilapidated property to Count Orlok, a nobleman living in Transylvania. Ellen, Hutter's wife, objects to the trip; troubled by nightmares, she lodges with Wolfram and Ruth Harding, their friends, while he travels. Peasants along the way plead with Hutter to turn back, and he comes upon an old tome about the Nosferatu, a vampire spawned from Belial. At the castle, Hutter and Orlok dine and discuss the property, and Orlok takes an interest in a photograph of Ellen. Meanwhile in Wisbourg, Knock reads cabalistic writings, becomes manic, and is committed to an asylum.

- About 50 to 60 percent of the film used green screen to place colorized backgrounds from the 1922 original behind the actors, a technique director David Lee Fisher had already used for his remake The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (2005).
- Doug Jones's Count Orlok makeup was restricted to his face and hands and took four hours to apply, with Jones saying Orlok still believed himself a dashing count.
