Plot summary
Matt and John are teenagers in Lancashire in 1974, and the round of youth clubs and factory production lines is what waits for them. They are not satisfied with it. Black American soul music opens their horizons, and the pair are drawn into the Northern soul scene, a nightclub-based movement that grew up in the north of England, with its own dance culture. Both want to be DJs, and the records that would set them apart are obscure American 45s that few have heard. They dream of travelling to the United States to unearth unknown 45s and establish themselves as top DJs on the scene. The scene also has a harder side, and rivalry, violence and drug abuse test the friendship between them.
