Plot summary
A massacre at the Boston restaurant where Reece Gilmore cooked leaves her the only person who comes out alive. A stay in a mental hospital for post-traumatic stress follows, and then she drives with no destination in mind, wanting to start over. Her car gives out in a small Wyoming mountain town, and she takes work in the local diner, saving what she earns toward the repairs so she can move on. She gets acquainted with the townspeople, among them Brody, who writes mystery novels, and she begins to think about settling there. Then, out hiking, she sees a killing.
