Plot summary
Ambar reaches Cleveland, Ohio, from Mexico with no legal status, and her mother has died. She lives on savings and on a job that pays her under the table. Looking for a room, she finds a rundown boarding house run by Red, who demands the first month's rent up front. After she moves in, strange events trouble her in the house and outside it. Some rooms hold artifacts, among them images of ritual sacrifice. She sees a man striking his head against a door and begins to see ghostly figures.
