Plot summary
While she is alone at her home, Sara, a blind sculptor, is raped. The police cannot identify the offender because she did not see him. She makes a sculpture of the man, and the likeness leads to the arrest of Michael, whose father Christopher Joseph is a wealthy businessman in Mumbai. Michael's parents engage Advocate Rajasekharan, a well-known defense lawyer. The public prosecutor proves unreliable, and Rajasekharan's questioning wins Michael bail. Sara's family is offered a settlement but chooses to fight. CI Paul Varghese, who leads the investigation, recommends Vijay Mohan as special public prosecutor because other lawyers avoid a case that Rajasekharan is handling. Vijay Mohan no longer practices law after an earlier incident involving Rajasekharan, once his senior and the father of Poornima. Reluctant at first, he agrees after he meets Sara.

- A case was filed with the Kerala High Court by Deepu K Unni, who alleged that Jeethu Joseph and Santhi Mayadevi had plagiarized a script he had written, claiming he had earlier met the pair and narrated the story to them.
- Neru was reported to bear a resemblance to the film Sketch Artist II: Hands That See, directed by Jack Sholder, and to draw inspiration from Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey, directed by Jim Donovan.
- Santhi Mayadevi, a practising lawyer, was first hired by Jeethu Joseph to help write the courtroom scenes of Drishyam 2; he invited her to co-write Neru after being impressed, and shared the story with her on the Drishyam 2 sets.
- Santhi Mayadevi, co-writer of Neru, had no plans to act in her own screenplay but ended up taking a role in the film after Jeethu Joseph invited her.
