Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud (1995) on Netflix

Plot summary

Nelly works occasional shifts at a printing shop and a bakery after losing her job in publishing. Her husband has stopped looking for work, and the couple is six months behind on the rent. At a coffee shop with her friend Jacqueline, Nelly meets Pierre Arnaud, a wealthy retired judge who learns of her debts and offers her 30,000 francs as a gift. She accepts, pays what she owes, and leaves her husband. Arnaud then hires her to type and edit his memoirs, and the work opens his past as a colonial judge and later a businessman, a man separated from his wife and estranged from his children. Nelly also meets Vincent, the editor handling the memoirs.
