Plot summary

A stake through the heart kills Count Dracula, and Nadja arrives to claim her father's body, expecting that his death will release her from the existence he imposed on her. She has it cremated and sets out for Brooklyn to visit Edgar, her twin brother. A stop for a drink brings her together with Lucy, another woman who feels empty, and the two go home together. Van Helsing, who killed Dracula, sits in jail until Jim, his nephew and Lucy's husband, posts bail. When the body leaves the morgue, Van Helsing asks Jim to help him destroy it properly. Nadja finds Edgar unwell and meets Cassandra, his nurse and live-in lover, who moves Edgar into Nadja's apartment, where Nadja treats him with plasma taken from shark embryo blood.

  • For Nadja's Transylvanian castle scenes, the production used an abandoned hospital on Central Park West in New York City.
  • Michael Almereyda wrote Nadja after a planned project of his called Fever, centered on Edgar Allan Poe, failed to attract financing.
