Plot summary
Marek is a slave girl who longs to escape her life of servitude and become a wizard, and she learns magic from the sorcerer Gojun Pye. In Hammerhead's tavern she meets Teela, a priestess seeking help, and Marek offers hers and runs away from her owner. A brace supports her injured leg. She gathers companions for the priestess: Thane, a former soldier who once rescued Marek from Peregus Malister, and Dagen, a half-elf thief. The group sets out to find Teela's sister, whom a wild ogre and several orcs seized. The sister holds a mysterious stone that was removed from a temple belonging to Teela's people, and the captors want it for their master.
