Plot summary
Madison Penrose, a wealthy high school student, is preparing her Sweet 16 and chooses the Roller Dome, a roller rink closed since its owner, Charlie Rotter, killed several teenagers there and went to prison. Her father objects to the venue, but Madison gets her way. Ten years later, Charlie's daughter Skye lives with her aunt Sarah and hopes to become an artist, while classmates, Madison above all, taunt her over her father. When Skye meets Madison's ex-boyfriend Brigg Jenner, Madison's friends carry word back to her, and Skye's locker is covered in paint with a warning to stay away from him. Brigg asks Skye out. Madison hands out invitations to her party, and Skye's friend Derek proposes crashing it at the Roller Dome.

- Thousands of actresses auditioned for the role of Madison Penrose before Julianna Guill won it; casting directors said she seemed "perfect for the role".
- Director Jacob Gentry called reality TV "the lowest form of entertainment you have", but after watching My Super Sweet 16, the series the producers wanted to base the film on, he decided it was the perfect scenario for a horror film.
- Filming took place in Atlanta, where Gentry and his long-time friend Alex Motlagh grew up. The film never names the city, but does show its skyline at the very end.
