Plot summary
Bruce is finishing work on Cave Alien II when his agent, Mills Toddner, promises him a birthday surprise. In the Oregon mining town of Gold Lick, a young fan named Jeff takes a medallion from a cemetery mausoleum and frees Guan Di, the Chinese god of the dead. Hoping his hero can save the town, Jeff kidnaps Bruce and brings him to Gold Lick. With no cameras and no script in sight, Bruce assumes the trip is the birthday surprise Mills arranged and that he is starring in a movie, so he agrees to help. At the town's hall he is told about Guan Di, and at a dinner party Kelly, Jeff's mother, warms to him after his earlier behavior had annoyed her.

- Dark Horse Comics' Mike Richardson said the studio that financed My Name Is Bruce liked it so much after the first shoot that it gave more money for a second one, beefing the film up so it could go into theaters.
- Tickets for a screening of My Name Is Bruce at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema sold out in less than two minutes, breaking the theater's previous sellout record, which had also been set by a Bruce Campbell appearance, in 1998.
