Biography

Ellen Sandweiss is an actress who gained fame as Cheryl, the sister of Bruce Campbell's Ash, in the horror film The Evil Dead (1981). A Michigan native, she met the film's director, Sam Raimi, and Campbell while they were all in high school, and she appeared in Raimi's early Super 8 shorts, among them Within the Woods (1978), the short used to attract investors for the feature. The Evil Dead, shot cheaply in Morristown, Tennessee, became a cult favorite, and after it Sandweiss finished college and stepped away from film. Two decades later she reunited with castmates Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly for public appearances as the Ladies of the Evil Dead, and she returned to horror with Satan's Playground (2006), acting alongside Felissa Rose.
