Plot summary
Alan has left the band The Bumblebees and come from Boston to New York, where he wants to get on with his music. He spends his time with Lawrence, a teaching assistant, and Lawrence's girlfriend Ellie, who have been a couple for about a year. Lawrence loves Ellie; she outwardly returns the feeling while keeping her doubts about the relationship to herself. Sara is a disc jockey who meets Alan at the radio station and asks him to her apartment; she seems drawn to him and he is not sure what to make of it. Alan is also drawn to Ellie, and he tries to keep his attention on his music.
