Plot summary
A church raffle gives Mr. Bean a vacation to Cannes, a camcorder, and €200. He takes the Eurostar to Paris, where French proves difficult and a seafood platter at Le Train Bleu turns into a mess. At the Gare de Lyon he asks Russian film director Emil Duchevsky to record him boarding a train. Repeated takes delay them, and the train pulls out with Bean and Emil's son Stepan on board, leaving Emil behind. Bean tries to look after Stepan and get him back to his father, but the journey south is complicated by lost travel documents and a language he cannot speak. The two hope to reach Cannes, where Emil is expected.

- Writer Simon McBurney set the film in France because a man who barely speaks would not be expected to talk there anyway. Bean's habit of saying Gracias to French people came from McBurney's great uncle, who claimed he had no language trouble touring Europe because he knew the essential French word Gracias.
- Rowan Atkinson said he had no trouble slipping back into Bean after years away, but reflected in 2022 that, being neither an athlete nor a cyclist, the cycling sequence was the hardest thing he had ever done as the character.
