Plot summary
Trina, Abbey, and Jackie became friends in college. Every year one of them plans a mystery weekend, a getaway whose location stays secret from the other two. Jackie, who lives in New York City, arranges a camping trip in the Deep Barrens, a forest in rural New Jersey. Trina is a model in Los Angeles; Abbey went home to Chicago after graduation to look after her sick mother. Jackie picks the two up in New Jersey and drives them to the campsite. Ike and Addley stalk the women from the woods.

- The BBFC banned Mother's Day from distribution in the UK in 1980, and the film was not passed for home media there until 2015, when it was passed uncut with an 18 certificate after screenings on the Horror Channel between 2005 and 2008.
- Australia's ACB passed Mother's Day uncut with an R 18+ rating in 1983, but the film was later banned there upon review in 1985.
- Mother's Day was not a success and got negative reviews on release, but it later developed a cult following and drew film scholars writing about its subtextual commentary on consumerism and the spread of TV in popular culture.
