Plot summary
Five-year-old Emma sees her parents arguing, and after a fall down the stairs she slips into a coma. From then on she oscillates between two worlds. One is a steampunk dreamscape where a terrifying creature that feeds on her tears chases her through an industrial landscape. The other is the physical world, where her body lies in a hospital bed and her mother's voice reaches her in memories and crossover moments, speaking and singing to her. A transistor radio is given to her to guide her back to consciousness, and it also lets her hear her parents talking beside her bed.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Moon Garden was shot using about 100,000 ft of expired 35mm film stock, and the heavier grain, loss of light sensitivity, color shifts and light leaks were used on purpose to make Emma's industrial dream world feel more surreal.
