Plot summary
The War of 1812 is underway, and Okwaho, called Oak, shares a home with her mother Wentahawi and her two lovers, the Mohawk warrior Calvin and the British soldier Joshua; one of the men has fathered the child she carries. Her tribe has kept out of the fighting while new Americans slaughter Mohawk people, and Wentahawi wants it to stay that way. Calvin and Joshua argue for retaliation, and Calvin slips away one night to set fire to a nearby American encampment. Six soldiers and their translator, Yancy, escape the flames and hunt the trio the next morning, with Captain Hezekiah Holt among the men demanding retribution.

- Ted Geoghegan and novelist Grady Hendrix wrote Mohawk after their planned film Satanic Panic, which Geoghegan was set to direct, was put on hold. They drew on Geoghegan's wish to make a film about marginalized people and on Hendrix's encyclopedic knowledge of the War of 1812.
