Plot summary
Fame from the Miss United States pageant makes Gracie Hart too recognizable for undercover assignments, and when her cover fails during a bank stakeout she is offered either a desk or a microphone. She chooses the microphone, becoming the FBI's media relations officer, with stylist Joel Meyers helping to shape her public image and a book about the pageant following. Her new partner is agent Sam Fuller, transferred from Chicago, whose anger and trouble working with others put the two at odds. Word then arrives from Las Vegas: pageant winner Cheryl Frasier and host Stan Fields have been abducted, and Gracie is dispatched to run the press conference, with Sam along as her protection. Walter Collins, the local assistant director, expects her to stay in front of the cameras. Gracie wants to work the case in the field instead.
