Plot summary
Millie, young and naive, marries Jack Maitland, a rich New York man, and they have a daughter, Connie. Three years into the marriage, his ongoing infidelity makes her miserable, and she asks him for a divorce. Pride keeps her from accepting his money, but she will not take Connie away from a comfortable home, so the girl stays with Jack and his mother. Millie pours her energy into her job at a hotel, where she works her way up through the ranks. The banker Jimmy Damier pursues her, and she prefers Tommy Rock, a reporter, but her earlier marriage leaves her unwilling to accept his proposals.
