Biography

Helen Twelvetrees was an American actress who appeared in Hollywood sound films during the 1930s. Raised in Brooklyn, she gained stage experience before heading west as the talkies displaced silent performers. Fox Film Corporation gave her a first screen job in The Ghost Talks (1929), but after three pictures the studio let her go. She then joined Pathé, where she starred in weepy dramas alongside Constance Bennett and Ann Harding. Her career took shape with Her Man (1930), and she often played women suffering for the wrong man. Later credits included Now I'll Tell with Spencer Tracy and A Bedtime Story with Maurice Chevalier. She also made Thoroughbred in Australia in 1936. Her last films were Persons in Hiding and Unmarried in 1939. She moved into summer stock and reached Broadway in Boudoir in 1941. She died in 1958.
