Plot summary
The jury in a murder trial withdraws to deliberate, leaving Mary Martin in the defendant's chair with time to remember. Her upbringing was hard, in a big city of the 1930s. Two men are part of that life: Leo Darcy, a gangster, and Tom Mannering, Jr., a lawyer. Her involvement with both is what has brought her to this courtroom.
