Plot summary
Troy Kelly is a U.S. Navy pilot in 1987. After he brings a wingman down safely on an aircraft carrier, he is picked to fly an SR-71 Blackbird on a covert reconnaissance flight over Russia with Air Force Major Pete Sanders. The flight is intercepted and Troy ejects over enemy territory, where Nikolai "Nick" Ustinov finds him. Nick is a former KGB officer who regrets his time in the service and is a fan of American culture, and he hides Troy from the search led by Alexander Volkov. Troy wants to get home; Nick wants to help him and to live in the United States one day. The two make a bargain: Troy will back Nick's bid for asylum if Nick can get him out of Russia.
