John Francis Daley

Biography

John Francis Daley is an American filmmaker and actor who began his career as a child performer in U.S. and international tours of The Who's Tommy. He became known for playing Sam Weir on the comedy-drama Freaks and Geeks and later Dr. Lance Sweets on Bones, a role that brought a 2014 PRISM Award nomination. He also contributes keyboards and vocals to the band Dayplayer. Much of his later work is with Jonathan Goldstein, starting with Horrible Bosses (2011). They co-wrote The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013) and Vacation (2015), which they also co-directed, and co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). The pair directed Game Night (2018). Daley appeared in Waiting... (2005) and Rapture-Palooza (2013), and he and Goldstein wrote and directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) and Mayday (2026).

A role that slipped away
In 2018, Daley and Goldstein were announced as directors of a film adaptation of DC Comics' The Flash, but that July it was announced they had left the project. Both still got story by credit with Joby Harold.
Behind the camera
Daley and Goldstein rewrote almost all the dialogue, overhauled the characters and reworked the third act of Game Night, though they did not receive screenwriter credit.
