Plot summary
Ana works at a hotel with Dimitri, a DJ, and Max, the cook, and is abused by the cruel head waiter. A storm knocks out the power, and a voice spelling mayday draws her through an oven into the ocean. She comes up on an unknown shore with no memory of how she arrived. Marsha, a new bride with cold feet when Ana last saw her, meets her there, now brimming with confidence, and takes her to a beached submarine where Gert and Bea live. Marsha explains the land is a utopia free of male violence, with camps of women across the island fighting a war against men trying to invade. The girls teach Ana to shoot a rifle, which she proves adept at.
