Plot summary
At the Vieuzac estate in southwestern France, the family's elderly matriarch dies suddenly. Her son Milou, sixty, has lived there all his life, with days given to nature, poetry and simple pleasures, and he wants to keep the ancestral home. His brother Georges and Georges's wife Lily come, and so do Milou's daughter Camille, his niece Claire and various grandchildren, lovers and friends. Rivalries and grudges resurface while the family argues about the inheritance, and most of them see the estate as an asset to sell. The housekeeper Adèle is left a quarter of it. Outside, strikes and fuel shortages paralyze the country, no priest can come, and a truck driver stranded on the road arrives with Pierre-Alain, a young relative who took part in the uprising in Paris.
