Plot summary
Copper Canyon is the town where Max McGrath was born, and where his father Jim died in what everyone calls a storm. Max and his mother Molly have just moved back, and at school he finds that other people know far more about Jim than he does, since Molly refuses to speak of his past or his death. Over dinner, Jim's friend Miles Edwards, who now heads the advanced research company N-TEK, tells Max that his father once worked there. Max also discovers that his body emits TURBO, a tachyonic energy strong enough to overload electrical devices, and that he cannot control when it comes. During a date with classmate Sofia, an overload builds and Max meets Steel, an amnesiac alien who bonds with him to absorb the energy. Mysterious men begin chasing the pair.
