Plot summary
Rule Archer works as a tattoo artist in a parlor he shares with several colleagues and takes the work seriously. Shaw Landon was friends first with his twin brother Remy, and she drives him to the Archer family's annual commemorative dinner, three years after the crash that killed Remy. Rule's mother drinks heavily, and Rule storms out. Shaw drives him home and they stop at the crash site, where he says the accident happened while he was on his way to pick him up; afterward he says he will not go again. Back at her apartment, Shaw's roommate Ayden presses her until she admits her feelings for Rule, which nobody else knows, including Gabe, the ex-boyfriend she is on a break from. Shaw then takes a waitressing job at the bar the tattoo artists frequent.
