Plot summary
With Gerd, Klausi and Hakan, Bertie spends his free time driving a heavily tuned Opel Manta along the roads of the Ruhr area. A Mercedes driver called Axel comes up behind them during one of these runs, and the group ends up at a fast food joint, where insults are exchanged. Bertie challenges Axel, who agrees only once Bertie puts up the money he and his girlfriend Uschi have been saving for their family home. Uschi is angry, both because of the risk and because Bertie seems to care more about his car than about her. At a nightclub she meets its owner, Helmut, who offers her a spot in a beauty contest, and she accepts, hoping it will make Bertie jealous. He and his friends then turn to preparing the car for the race.
