Plot summary
School is out for the summer and Daniel, a trainee teacher, plans to spend it in Hamburg while everyone else travels. At her market stall Juli, an aspiring artist, sells him a Mayan ring with a sun symbol and tells him it will bring him to a woman bearing the same sign, then invites him to a party that evening. There Daniel meets Melek, a Turkish woman whose shirt shows a sun. After a night touring the city he offers her a bed at his apartment, and Juli, arriving at the party just as the two walk out together, decides to leave town herself, hitchhiking from the Autobahn with no set destination. Driving back from the airport, Daniel is the first to stop for her. He means to drive to Istanbul, where Melek said she would be.
